So you have arrived in Toronto on business and you want to know the best way to travel. Downtown Toronto can be tricky — before you know it, traffic can creep up on you and leave you stranded for hours.
Below are some of the best ways to get around the city the eco-savy way.
Subways - TTC
The TTC subway system is undeniably one of the fastest ways to get around the city. You can a get a day pass for $7.00 a day and travel unlimited above ground on buses and streetcars and below ground on trains.

PATH Underground Walkway:
Want to get some exercise and see an another part of the city? We suggest you use the PATH system. The PATH system is an underground walkway system that can take you from The Toronto Bus Terminal all the way down to Union Station. Note that the pathway does not follow the same route as the streets above.

Want to Drive?
Zipcars
Zipcars is a member driven company that allows you to share a car with other cityfolk for a given period of time. The company is located worldwide so a nice little perk is that if you’re a member here in Canada you can vacation to US or UK and still rely on Zip car services.
How does using Zipcars benefit the environment
- Fewer cars. Way Fewer. Each and every Zipcar takes 15-20 personally-owned vehicles off the road.
- Green gets even greener.10% of the population is expected to adopt car sharing as their primary mode of transportation. Break it down and you have millions of people saving billions of gallons of gas and oil.
- Less and less driving. After joining Zipcar, 90% of our members drove 8,800 kilometers or less per year. That adds up to more than 121 million litres of crude oil left in the ground.
- A penny saved, a community revived. Zipcar members save more than $500 (vs. car ownership). Which is money that you can put back into your sustainable life and community
Co-op Hybrid Taxis
Co-op Taxi company is one of the very few companies that use hybrid vehicles for their fleet, so look out for them the are the yellow and red cabs driving around the city.
Welcome to Toronto, and enjoy getting around the eco-friendly way!
Until Next Time,
Amalia & Tiffany.
The World Wildlife Federation has created an amazing program called The Good Life to track your eco-friendly efforts and the difference your making in your community!
Beyond that, The Good Life will give you some great “green” tips as well as an outlet to interact with other Canadians trying to live more sustainable lives.
“The Good Life” is a community of Canadians who would like to make simple but significant changes in their lifestyles that help fight climate change and reduce their footprint on the planet.
How to get on the Good Life?
1. Go to http://www.thegoodlife.wwf.ca and sign up
2. Check out all the actions that you have taken or plan to take in the near future!
3. Watch as your actions are tracked, and recieve an estimation of the amount of CO2 you have reduced.
4. Pat Yourself on the back as your total is added to the provincial and country wide total to track what we are doing as a nation to reduced greenhouse emissions.
We have taken up the challenge and we are now inviting you to join us in this cause. Don’t forget to invite your friends your co-workers to join. Remember, its the simple steps that will make a difference.. like telling your friends and coworkers what you’ve done to reduce CO2 in your life.
Cheers!
Tiffany & Amalia
