Happy Earth Day from Talen Events! Looking for something to do to show your support for the environment? Check out the following 5.5 Earth Day tips!
1. Transportation: Leave the car at home today, take a nice stroll to all your daily destinations or take public transit! If that’s a too “eco-friendly” for your taste, offer to carpool your coworkers to work and home!
2. Electricity: Turn the lights off, unplug power bars, and unplug your appliances if you’re not using currently using them. People still waste what’s known as phantom electricity — electricity used when something is plugged in and turned off. Instead, open the windows, pull back the drapes and use daylight to light your surroundings. Set the mood with beeswax candles in the evening.
3. Go Vegetarian: Try having a meat free day! Just this small act reduces greenhouse gases used to produce and transport that meat to your dining table.
4. Buy Local: While you’re going vegetarian, take a walk down to your local market and pickup organic or local produce for your meals. You’ll be supporting your local farmers, and you might even meet a new friend!
5. Entertainment: Looking for a fun Earth Day activity? After dinner why not check out Disney Earth, a movie that depicts nature in an unflinching manner. If you liked Planet Earth you’ll love this movie! At the same time you’ll also foster environmental awareness. If you buy a ticket in the opening week of the movie Disney will plant a tree in your honour.

Earth Hour is today, and what better way to celebrate than to share it with friends and family! Talen Events is here to help you celebrate and make a fun night of with these green party tips!
Visit your Local Market
Support your local farmer with fresh vegetables and fresh dips from your Local Farmer’s Market. This is a great way to meet your local farmers and find some new favorite dishes. Don’t be afraid to ask where their vegetables come from, and whether or not they use pesticides!
Ecofriendly… Drinking?
Get your Eco-friendly drink on with different green drinks. You can create fruit smoothies from your finds at the Farmer’s Market or taste test some alcoholic drinks like Tetra Pak or local sourced wine. Steam Whistle, or Mill Street Organic Beer.
Ambience
Set the mood with great ambience. Find alternative light sources for you and your friends. Tea lights make an excellent source of light and can be purchased from Ikea or any local store. Also, it’s a great idea to have tea lights around the house in case of a power outage.
Entertain ME!
Think you can’t have fun without a television set? WRONG! Dust off the board games, grab that deck of cards, do a shadow puppet show or let your imagination run wild with storytelling. Without the distractions of sports or movies, you can really take the time to get to your friends… and who knows? You might even like them more afterwards!
We hope your Earth Hour is filled with fun and laughter. And who knows… if all goes well, you’ve just started a great tradition between you and your friends!
Cheers and Have Fun

It is a great day to be alive, the sun is shining, the birds are singing and the temperature is just right. As I was picking trash today in a park nearby I got to thinking that today is a great day to take your first steps to make the Earth a better place. We have made enormous strides this year in trying to understand how our everyday activities impact the earth, and how little changes in our behaviour can change things better for the future. From celebrities to the local news everyone is providing tips on how you can start to make your life green and for those of us who are living a green life amp; how to sustain that lifestyle.
The key to get everyone involved is to engage people on some level. As we at Talen Events move along in this journey of trying to find our way to a sustainable lifestyle we are getting involved in our community and learning through others. This past weekend, we had the honor of participating in WWF’s CN Tower Climb and helped to register 5000 climbers who believe in the need to help the environment. While it is absolutely necessary to celebrate the Earth today, I think the time has come to make everyday Earth Day.
