Wedding Planning Guide

Congratulations! You are engaged! Now it’s time to start the planning process that will take you to your perfect day and we’re here to help! At Talen Events, we help couples like you every day plan your wedding and today we’ll offer a Wedding Planning Guide to help you start planning your special day.

1 to 2 years in advance

• Announce your engagement to family and friends, either via a web announcement or in person.
• Decide the date and time of your wedding.
• Choose the type of wedding that you want
• Determine your budget
• Create your organizational system
• Create your guest list
• Decide who will be in your wedding party and extend the invitation
• Meet with the officiant or clergy person for the ceremony
• Decide whether to hire a Wedding Consultant
• Visit and Decide on your Wedding and reception location
• Determine what the requirements are to apply for your marriage license
• Research, interview and book your wedding vendors
• Research your honeymoon options

9 months to 1 year in advance

• Select your wedding gown and accessories
• Look for your bridal party’s attire and accessories, especially if you decide to have it custom made.
• Finish booking your wedding vendors and sign all contracts
• Create a master guest list with all of your guests contact information
• Book your honeymoon
• Open your gift registries and be prepared to send thank you cards for any gifts that you may begin receiving.
• Order your invitations and any other personal stationary that you might need.
• Schedule the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner
• Plan/Reserve accommodation for your out of town guests
• Choose your reception menu

3 to 6 months in advance

• Address and send your “save the date” cards to your guests especially those who may have to travel for your wedding
• Apply or renew your passports
• Meet with the officiant to talk about the ceremony and the rehearsal
• Finalize your ceremony and reception
• Address and send out your wedding invitations
• Choose your attendants, parents, bride and groom gifts
• Select and order your wedding bands

1 to 3 months in advance

• Attain all necessary paperwork in order to make changes to your name ( should you decide to change your name)
• Complete a site inspection of the venue and make detailed notes of setup.
• Choose your linens and place settings and determine reception décor
• Have a final fittings for wedding attire and accessories
• Have your engagement photo taken
• Apply for your marriage license
• Reconfirm all of your wedding plans and pay all of your final deposits
• Make all of your hair, nail and spa appointments

Final Weeks

• Confirm all of your rehearsal plans with officiant and attendants
• Finalize seating plan for reception
• Meet with your wedding vendors for final consultation to ensure that all parties involved understand how the day is to unfold
• Attend all pre-wedding celebrations
• Prepare a list of the photos you wish the photographer to take and the moments you wish the videographer to capture.
• Pack for the Honeymoon
