Earth Day 2009 - Talen Events Top 5.5 Ecofriendly Tips!

admin | earth day, talen events | Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Happy Earth Day from Talen Events! Looking for something to do to show your support for the environment? Check out the following 5.5 Earth Day tips!

1. Transportation: Leave the car at home today, take a nice stroll to all your daily destinations or take public transit! If that’s a too “eco-friendly” for your taste, offer to carpool your coworkers to work and home!

2. Electricity: Turn the lights off, unplug power bars, and unplug your appliances if you’re not using currently using them. People still waste what’s known as phantom electricity — electricity used when something is plugged in and turned off.  Instead, open the windows, pull back the drapes and use daylight to light your surroundings. Set the mood with beeswax candles in the evening.

3. Go Vegetarian: Try having a meat free day! Just this small act reduces greenhouse gases used to produce and transport that meat to your dining table.

4. Buy Local: While you’re going vegetarian, take a walk down to your local market and pickup organic or local produce for your meals. You’ll be supporting your local farmers, and you might even meet a new friend!

5. Entertainment: Looking for a fun Earth Day activity? After dinner why not check out Disney Earth, a movie that depicts nature in an unflinching manner. If you liked Planet Earth you’ll love this movie! At the same time you’ll also foster environmental awareness. If you buy a ticket in the opening week of the movie Disney will plant a tree in your honour.

SmartBride Spring Charity Event

In our last blog we introduced SmartBride Boutique, now we have a special announcement about a great Charity Event Talen Events went to and ways you can help the “Women Moving Women” Campaign.

On Thursday March 26, 2009 Amalia had the opportunity to attend the 1st SmartBride Spring Charity Event in support of the Canadian Women’s Foundation and its Women Moving Women Campaign.

Held at the Steam Whistle Brewery, we were entertained by trapeze swings, music and a tour of the brewery. Along with a fun photobooth with props, the food was great.

In order to help raise the money for this campaign there was a Silent Auction held with prizes ranging from a Image Consulting session from Your Shop Girl  to Toronto Raptors Tickets.

Women Moving Women campaign is an intiative to help women move out of poverty and into a better life, the event raised $3800 and helped move 1.5 women out of poverty. SmartBride Boutique would like to raise the other $1200 to move 2 more women out of poverty so they have resolved to donate $1 from every bridal or bridesmaid gown that is posted to the site throughout the month of April.

So we are encourage all of you to pass the word along about this campaign, if you or somebody you know has a bridal or bridesmaid gown in your closet to please list your gown on www.smartbrideboutique.com and help us move women in Canada out of poverty.

It’s Spring Cleaning Time! So If you live in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Halifax, Victoria and Winnipeg, clean out that post-wedding closet and post your gowns today!

As Always… Happy Planning!

Ecofriendly Easter Ideas - Happy Easter from Talen Events!

admin | green products | Sunday, April 12th, 2009

We wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Easter! Although Easter doesn’t seem like the most ecofriendly holiday in the world there are definately ways to green up you holiday!

For instance, if you have small children and know there are years of Easter Egg Hunts ahead, purchase plastic easter eggs once and reuse them every year. It’s okay to buy them but don’t throw them out after only one use!

Another way is to purchase organic candy instead of the sugar filled, artificial flavor candy found by the moundfuls at the store or even purchase other goodies that you know will be used in the house like coloring books, and crayons.

If you’d like more information about how to make your Easter Green this year check out:

Happy Holidays!
